Five Ways to Stay Warm and Cozy All Winter Long

Five Ways to Stay Warm and Cozy All Winter Long

Winter is the perfect time to cuddle up indoors and get cozy. Staying warm can be a bit more challenging for seniors. As we age our bodies tend to become more susceptible to the cold, so it is more important than ever that we find ways to maintain a healthy body temperature. Here are five tips to help you stay extra warm and cozy this winter.

Enjoy a Hot Cup of Tea

Drinking tea is a great way to stay warm throughout the cold season. Besides tasting great it can also have health benefits. There are so many types of tea to choose from that you can never really get tired of it. Oolong, cinnamon, ginger, and peppermint teas are an especially good choice if you’re looking to get warm and stay warm. Herbal teas are a great option if you like to sip tea throughout the day without getting caffeine jitters.

Eat a Warm Meal

As we age, maintaining a healthy body weight can become more challenging. With age it can become challenging to prepare adequate meals, although it is more important than ever to make sure we eat a balanced diet. The process of digesting itself is enough to help raise your body temperature and keep our bodies from getting too cold. At Garden Plaza of Valley View it’s easy to get three square meals; and there’s no shortage of community members to enjoy them with!

Extra Blankets

Collecting a nice selection of soft throw blankets is a great way to keep warm. It is always good to have a few as back ups so that they can be washed regularly so they can remain soft and fresh smelling. Beyond keeping you warm; a cozy blanket is comforting and can be a nice way to add a splash of color to your space.

Keep Your Blinds and Curtains Closed

Closing blinds and curtains on the coldest of days helps keep the heat in and can also save on energy costs by preventing heat loss. It is most important to keep blinds and curtains closed at night when it is most cold and our bodies need comfort for a sound sleep.

Move Your Body

It can be easy to get a little lazy during the winter months. Our natural tendency is to hibernate and bundle up. However, it is important to set aside time to move your body even when you’re indoors. Not only does movement raise your core temperature it also helps you stay in shape during the season of indulgence. Chair yoga is a great way to stay warm and limber throughout the chilly season. Another great indoor option is mall walking. This can also be a good way to have some social time.

Keeping warm can be a challenge for anyone, especially seniors. At Garden Plaza of Valley View our staff will help you stay warm and comfortable all season long!
